President Muhammadu Buhari has shared his reaction when he
lost Nigeria’s 2011 presidential election.
He made the revelation on Friday at a meeting in Makkah with
a group of Nigerians resident in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Buhari expressed support to efforts to increase the role of
technology in the nation’s elections.
He argued that the introduction of the card reader and
electronic register was God’s answer to his prayers.
The Nigerian leader suggested that he had been cheated of
his victory in three previous presidential polls.
“After the third so-called defeat, I said, ‘God dey’.
Opponents laughed at me but God answered my prayers by bringing in technology.
“At that point, nobody can steal their votes or buy them,”
the President added.
Buhari contested 2003, 2007 and 2011 presidential elections
losing to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck
Jonathan.
The retired General and former Head of State defeated
Jonathan in the 2015 election.
