Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, has said
that for terrorism and radicalisation to be tackled in Nigeria, there is a need
to have an improved mass education system in the country among the citizens.
Speaking at the 2nd Education Submit organized by the
Nigerian Army Education Corps held in Sokoto on Wednesday, Sultan Abubakar
noted that lack of education is a major cause of radicalization among citizens
that has great effects on the current insecurity in the country.
He also identified a lack of knowledge, stressing that most
of the perpetrators (terrorists) turned the true knowledge upside down and
interpreted it the best way they understood simply because they lacked the
requisite knowledge thereby causing security challenges in the country.
Sultan Abubakar added, “The more we come together and talk,
the more we proffer possible solutions to various prevailing issues that we are
facing as a country. Hence the need of having properly educated people in the
society.”
He observed that the current insecurity challenges
confronting the country can be a thing of the past if citizens are mass
educated and well informed on issues that affect them now and their future.
Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar described the submit as timely
following the current happenings in the country and commended the Nigerian Army
for its key role in sustaining peace and unity of the country.
He expressed optimism that various speakers invited would do
justice to issues that have been raised and urged the organiser to also
implement the outcome of this summit, lamenting that one of the reasons the
country is faced with insecurity is that Nigerians have failed to implement
important issues raised by experts.
He also urged the Army to always include youths and students
in any public discourse, saying that most things fall back on the young
generation.
