Former Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard is in pole position to replace Steve Bruce as Newcastle manager, SunSport reports.
Bruce is expected to be relieved of his duties after Newcastle was taken over by Saudis last week.
And Lampard is a leading contender to replace Bruce, who met Newcastle new part-owner, Amanda Staveley for the first time on Monday, with talks potentially starting as soon as this week.
The former England midfielder is ahead of Ex-Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre, Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers, Brighton’s Graham Potter and also among other names for the Newcastle job.
Lampard has been out of work since leaving Chelsea in January.
The 43-year-old is keen on a return to the dugout.
Speaking about his intention to return to management, Lampard recently said: “I’ve had some opportunities that have come up in the last six weeks, two months, that have been flattering but not the right thing.
“The opportunities were not quite right, but I think about it. It would be something I am keen to do, at the right time, at the right place.”
