EPL: Man Utd’s 4-2 defeat at Leicester means it’s time to sack Solskjaer

It was shambles.

Manchester United’s 29-game unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League ended in a bullying at Leicester City.

For some reason, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to start with captain Harry Maguire, who only had one training session before today.

But of course, this was just one of the nonsensical decisions he made.

It was all going to plan, as Mason Greenwood gave United the lead with an unstoppable drive into the postage stamp corner of Kasper Schmeichel’s net.

But the Foxes didn’t flinch. They smelt blood. The equalizer duly arrived after Kelechi Iheanacho robbed a half-asleep Maguire of the ball and fed Youri Tielemans, who lifted it casually into the net.

Caglar Soyuncu snuck behind Maguire (again) and slammed home from close range, before Marcus Rashford finished confidently to make it 2-2.

Again, Leicester knew they were the better side and were determined to prove it. Straight from the kick-off, Jamie Vardy side-footed home to make it 3-2. There was still enough time for Patson Daka to grab his first goal for the club (ghosting in behind Maguire again).

It doesn’t get easier for Solskjaer.

Up next is happy-go-lucky Atalanta in the Champions League. Then they take on red-hot Liverpool in the league, before Atalanta again. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are on the horizon.

This run of fixtures will not fill United fans with confidence. And it is not just about this Leicester game.

Solskjaer’s incompetence has become obvious for a long time. How he just sets up a team to win games by personal brilliance or sheer luck. How there is no concrete gameplan or sensible in-game management.

The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo was meant to turn a team that finished second into title contenders. But even he, at 36, has his limits.

The buck stops at the manager’s table. And it is about time the board and those who make decisions at Old Trafford started exploring alternatives to a clueless Norwegian.
