The Commissioner for Rural Transformation, Edem Okon Effiom in Cross Rivers State has insisted that, for fairness and equity, in 2023 the southern senatorial district should produce the governor.
This is despite the body language of Governor Ben Ayade which analysts allege indicates otherwise.
In an interview Tuesday in Calabar, Effiom said the governorship should first of all be domiciled in the south before aspirants begin to fight for it as individuals.
He urged the politicians from the district to respectfully remind Ayade about his earlier promise to ensure his successor comes from the south instead of fighting him.
“The people from the south should be persuasive and tell the Governor ‘sir, please let your words come to pass.’ They are the ones to remind the Governor to remember his promises and not to fight him because that may be counterproductive
“We should work together like people who want that office and not to attack the Governor in a way that may get him offended.
“I believe in zoning because it has brought relative peace to our polity.
“The Cross River North has stayed for 16 years before it came to their turn which produced Senator Ben Ayade. We, in the south, have also waited for 16 years. The central has only stayed out of power for eight years they are clamouring to come back to power which to me is not fair. But then we should work in unison.”
Asked if he would throw his hat into the ring for the 2023 guber race, Effiom said all should wait on Ayade but if he found himself in the political saddle he would complete all Ayade’s unfinished projects.
