Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua has said
the release of Sunday Igboho, from detention, is delayed by the vacation
embarked upon by judges in the Benin Republic.
The spokesperson for the group, Maxwell Adeleye, confirmed
the development on Tuesday.
The Beninese Court had ordered that Sunday Igboho should be
returned to prison custody when he appeared before the court on July 27.
However, Maxwell explained that Igboho’s legal team led by
Olusegun Falola has prepared “everything necessary” to guarantee his release.
He said: “The judges are on vacation. They are expected to
hear his case after the resumption and he should be freed. There was no
vacation judge to hear the case. It is not like Nigeria where you have vacation
judges.”
Igboho is currently locked up in the Benin Republic.
He was on July 20 arrested in Cotonou while trying to travel
to Germany.
The Yoruba nation agitator fled Nigeria after he was
declared wanted by the Department of State Services, DSS, following the alleged
discovery of weapons in his Ibadan residence.
He, however, denied owning the weapons found in his house,
stressing that they were planted there.
