Babagana Zulum, Borno State Governor, on Thursday said
thousands of Boko Haram members have surrendered.
Zulum disclosed this during a Town Hall meeting in
Maiduguri, the state capital.
Describing the decision of the terrorists as a welcome
development, the governor said the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services,
DSS, and police have been supporting his administration over handling of the
repentant Boko Haram members.
Zulum said the Army, DSS, and police are supporting and
helping his government ensure the success of the process.
The governor also disclosed that his government is working
with the federal government on a framework for the
surrender of Boko Haram members.
“The ongoing surrender of Boko Haram members is a welcome
development.
“So far, thousands of them have surrendered. We have been
receiving tremendous support from the Nigerian army, Nigerian police and DSS,
and others at ensuring the success of this very process.
“Governments at state and federal level are working
assiduously to establish a sustainable framework that will ensure proper
handling of these processes,” Zulum said.
