President Muhammadu Buhari spoke glowingly of Secretary to
the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha on the occasion of his
birthday.
Buhari declared his admiration and respect for the Chairman
of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19.
The President, in a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu,
thanked Mustapha for his services as he clocked 65.
“Since his appointment as SGF, my respect and admiration for
Mustapha have grown ever stronger and deeper because of the passion and energy with
which he does his job”, he said.
The Nigerian leader described Mustapha as a “remarkably
competent person” who enjoys the confidence and support of his colleagues.
Buhari commended him for playing a big part in the nation’s
success in combating the pandemic.
The President advised other public servants to borrow a leaf
from Mustapha “who does his job with passion and amazing talent for details.”
Buhari appointed Mustapha as SGF after the sack of Babachir
Lawal in October 2017. Both men hail from Adamawa State.
The government’s secretary was before then the Managing
Director of Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
Fondly called the “engine room” by administration officials,
Mustapha is known for his hard work and humility.
On assumption of office, he told his staff and the public
that he preferred to be addressed as ‘SGF’ without the prefix of ‘Your
Excellency’.
“I will make a passionate appeal. I don’t know where you
people get this ‘Your Excellency’ from. Some of the nomenclatures are banana
peels.
“I often hear people say ‘Executive Governor,’ I say look at
the constitution, there is nothing like executive governor; It is Governor of a
state.
“I want to simply be addressed as SGF please. I don’t claim
any superior experience or skills, other than the grace of God,” Mustapha
added.
