Day of Mourning: Ndigbo asked to observe minute of silence

As part of the activities to mark the Igbo Day of Mourning, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has asked Ndigbo to observe a one-minute silence at noon today, September 29, 2021.

This wascontained in a statement signed by the Ohanaeze Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro.

In the place of the Igbo Day Celebration observed annually, Ohanaze had said Igbo Day of Mourning would be observed today.

Isiguzoro said “the lives of many Igbos have been wasted either by Fulani herdsmen or security agencies and that is why we have chosen today to honour all those who have paid the supreme price.

“I, therefore, call on all Igbos, at home and in the diaspora, to observe a one-minute silence today, September 29, 2021 at noon.

“Whether they are in the office, business place, school, on the road, once it is 12 noon today, they should pause and observe a minute of silence in honour of our dead heroes and martyrs.”

“Millions of lives of our people have been wasted in one way or the other, including those who cannot even be traced by the manner of their killing. Today is a day to mourn them and as we pray that the lives of our people be preserved,” he added.
