The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of
Justice, Abubakar Malami has been named “Golden Symbol of Nigerian Youths”.
The AGF remains a controversial figure over his comments on
a number of national issues.
Malami condemned the Southern Governors’ opposition to open
grazing and maintains states cannot collect Value Added Tax (VAT) collection by
states.
The minister, who insists the federal government will not
reveal Boko Haram sponsors’ names, has been accused of disregarding court
orders, among others.
But on Tuesday, a non-governmental organisation praised him
for “exhibiting charismatic leadership qualities that culminated into
monumental contribution to the dispensation of justice system”.
A statement by the minister’s spokesman, Umar Gwandu quoted
the director, Abubakar M. K. as saying Malami’s “hard work, honesty and
enthusiasm demonstrates as a man of amazing legal acumen”.
Abubakar said the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) has been
fighting corruption under the Buhari administration with doggedness.
“The entire Nigerian Youth are also not unaware of your
immense, notable and laudable contribution to economic growth, political
stability and support for the survival of democracy in Nigeria”, he said.
Also on Tuesday, 54-year-old Malami from Kebbi was conferred
with the “Omoluabi” of Oduduwa Youth Worldwide.
The leader, Akinyele Olasumbo described the AFG as “a
patriotic and selfless Nigerian who ensures constitutional democracy and that
justice is served without fair or favour”.
