Why Tammy Abraham snubbed Barcelona to join Mourinho at Roma

Departing Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham, turned down the chance to join Barcelona because he has been won over by Roma coach, Jose Mourinho, and club general manager, Tiago Pinto.

Sky Sports reports that Barcelona made a shock move to sign Abraham ahead of Roma this week, with Blaugrana coach, Ronald Koeman, even calling the England international in an attempt to convince him to join the LaLiga giants.

But Abraham had already spoken to Mourinho and was sold the idea of moving to Roma in a meeting with Pinto.

Abraham’s imminent move to Roma is believed to include a buy-back clause set at £68million, but that cannot be triggered until he has spent two seasons at Giallorossi.

Abraham is currently in Italy to complete his £34million move to Roma.

The 23-year-old scored 30 goals in 82 appearances for Chelsea.

He has been at Chelsea since the age of seven but was frozen out by the Blues manager, Thomas Tuchel, last season and the West London club recently completed a club-record deal for striker, Romelu Lukaku.
