No fewer than six suspected kidnappers and a gun runner were confirmed to have been nabbed by the leadership of the Taraba State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
It was gathered that this comes following the 30-day ultimatum recently issued out to herders by the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Njidda Tafida.
The suspects, who were on Sunday handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Sokoya, were said to have been fished out from their various hideouts in the state following tip offs.
Presenting them to the police during the formal inauguration of a 16-man committee assigned with the responsibility of tackling criminal activities especially among the herders, the chairman of the state branch of the association, Sahabi Tukur, said the handing over was in response to the pledge made before Tafida and Sokoya.
Reiterating the readiness of the committee not to go to bed pending when the undesirable elements among them are brought down on their knees, the need for the command to reciprocate their efforts by collaborating with the ethnic group, he said, have become necessary.
The association, during its last meeting with the monarch in his palace located in the Jalingo metropolis, had vowed to tread extra legitimate miles to fish out the bad eggs among them.
Elated by the development, the Commissioner lauded the efforts of the group for their resolve to collaborate with security operatives in order to address the vices bedeviling the state.
While calling for more collaboration, especially from the neighbouring states of Adamawa and Benue, he assured the Fulani of his command’s readiness to join forces with them to stamp out the state hoodlums.
Apart from the six suspects and the gun runner, which were handed over to the police, six repented kidnappers from the Fulani extraction, also handed over to the police.
The kidnappers, who publicly swore with the Holy Qur’an, vowed never to engage in any form of crime.
