EFCC to arrest celebrities, social media influencers promoting scams


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned entertainers and social media influencers to stop promoting fraudulent businesses or face arrest.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman urged them to use their platforms and crafts to educate Nigerians against economic crimes.

Bawa spoke on Thursday during an engagement at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

He disclosed that he had always wanted to have a chat with influencers and entertainers considering their clout and social media reach.

The anti-graft chief called for more support for the commission, noting that the fight against corruption requires the input of all citizens.

Bawa lamented the alarming increase in cybercrime in Nigeria, especially among the youth.

Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman, in a statement quoted him as complaining that some celebrities were using “their platforms to promote scams especially investments scam”.

The chairman advised them “to desist or face the wrath of the law”.
