The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has
condemned attempts and inordinate requests for information from the
establishment by politicians.
A statement on Wednesday by Ahmed Dikko, the Chief Media
Analyst raised the alarm.
He told such government officials and politicians that
intelligence institutions of government are apolitical, operating within fixed
and tailored mandate.
The spokesman said the NFIU was created at the heart of
global best practice to support crime analysis and Intelligence building
locally and internationally.
The laws and standards, he noted, permit the agency to share
information with only Law enforcement, Regulatory, Defence and Security and
corresponding agencies in over 170 countries.
“We do not release information for administrative, civil and
business reasons or requests”, Dikko reiterated.
“We will always respond to any attempt or an inkling of it
to bring or introduce or incline local and international politics to our
operations.”
NFIU said influence peddling or mediocrity can substitute
professional conduct or personal character.
The statement added that any officer, whose conduct does not
meet best practices, will be published.
