Aisha Yesufu, a popular activist, has condemned the threat of a senior police officer to shoot a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Yesufu described the action of the police officer as
“nonsense.”
She wondered why the officer was trying to deny the IPOB
supporters the right to their constitutional freedom.
In a tweet, Yesufu wrote: “What nonsense is that? Is the
@PoliceNG man not there because of the Nigerian constitution?
“Why then is he denying people what the constitution has
allowed? Wherein is the rule of law?”
Your threat to kill, bury IPOB members absolute nonsense –
Aisha Yusuf to Wike
A senior police officer had threatened to shoot a supporter
of IPOB during the resumed trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the group.
This was after he ordered members of the group to vacate the
court premises.
The trial of Kanu, who has been agitating for Biafra,
resumes today at the Justice Binta Nyako-led court.
Kanu was recently rearrested in an unspecified African country before he was bundled to Nigeria to face trial.
Upon his return to Nigeria, he was brought before Justice
Nyako, who remanded him in custody of the Department of State Services, DSS,
while adjourning the matter till today.
