Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan
has reacted to the sack of some pastors by Bishop David Oyedepo’s Living Faith
Church.
Omokri said Living Faith was right to have sacked the
pastors because they failed in evangelism.
Pointing out that the church “is in order,” the former
presidential aide said Jesus Christ urged Christians to engage in evangelism.
In a tweet, Omokri wrote: “I read the letter from Winners
Chapel. it did not mention anything about money. Rather, it used the word
“church growth”.
“Christ called us to engage in evangelism-Matthew 28:18-20.
A pastor who fails at that should be sacked-Matthew 25:29. Winners Chapel is in
order.”
A pastor of living faith church, Peter Godwin had recently
decried his sack by the church for allegedly not generating enough income from
his branch.
The pastor in a video which has now gone viral, accused
Bishop Oyedepo of relieving him of his duty through the management of his
church because the income generated from his branch was poor.
According to the Pastor in the video which had Nigerians
lashing out on Oyedepo, he was invited by the state pastor and on getting
there, he met other pastors about 40 of them, who were also sacked for the same
purpose.
“My name is Peter Godwin a pastor of living faith church winners chapel international, Abete Ikere-Ekiti.
“By God’s special grace, I was lucky to be one of the
pastors that was employed on the 28th of August 2020 and since then I have been
going about carrying out the duties which the almighty God has called me to do.
“Unfortunately on the 1st of July I received a call from the
state pastor asking to see me.
“When got there, to my surprise I saw other pastors over 40
of us sitted there and few minutes later we were all issued a letter which
states that we all have been relieved of our duties as pastors of the ministry.
“The letter stated that my church growth index fell beyond
expectations and that my service as a pastor in-charge was no longer required.
“I was also asked to vacate the church accommodation and
return everything that belongs to the church which I had in my possession.
“I even had to call the management the next day to know what
really happened as I was cleared of being involved in any dubious act or
something shady.
“I was told that the ministry doesn’t operate at a loss and
that that I was sacked because the income generated from my branch was too
low,” he said.
However, the church, in a letter claimed that the pastors
were relieved of their duties for lack of church growth.
