Insecurity: Ganduje approves N160m for police station, barracks at Kano border town


Following recent reports of infiltration of some suspected persons from Katsina, Zamfara and other areas notorious for banditry to Kano border communities, the Kano State Government has approved the construction of a N160million fully equipped police barracks, station at Getso town, Gwarzo Local Government Area of the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, announced this at the foundation laying ceremony of the project, explaining that the project will include a police office, divisional police office, house for senior and junior staff quarters and mosque for the police officers.

He also said Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has approved the construction of other developmental projects in the area, such as hospital, expansion of Getso cattle market with a modern abattoir that will create employment opportunity to the teaming youths in the area, so as to avert them from joining some disgruntled element that might infiltrate the area.

Dr. Getso further called on the people of the area to cooperate with the contractor, assuring them that the government will compensate them, particularly in the relocation of the motor park.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Works who was represented by his Assistant Director, Engr. Bello Sule, reiterated the government’s commitment towards infrastructural development to promote rural areas in the state.

He assured the quality of the project adding that the ministry will give adequate attention to the projects with a view to execute quality and timely work.

Speaking on behalf of the community, the traditional ruler of the area, San Getso, Alhaji Bello Ibrahim commended Ganduje for his concerns to the area and thanked the Getso for his laudable contributions to the developments of the area.

Getso described Getso community as a historic political area which has been contributing to the economic wellbeing of Kano.

It could be recalled that recently the Gwarzo Local Government Chairman had reported activities of some foreign elements whom he suspected to be bandits coming from Katsina and Zamfara states.
