JUSUN strike: Nnamdi Kanu reacts, says democracy can’t work without judiciary

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reacted to the prolonged ongoing industrial action by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

Recall that JUSUN embarked on an indefinite strike on April 3 to demand financial independence for the nation’s judiciary.

The action has crippled the judicial system in the country for over three months as all courts across the nation remain shut.

Reacting to the closure of courts, the Biafra freedom fighter said there can’t be democracy in a nation where the judiciary is shut down.

According to him, the rights of Nigerians have been suspended since the strike began.

Kanu made the remark in a tweet on his official Twitter handle on Tuesday.

“A democracy functions only when the three arms are functioning. For almost 2 months, the Judiciary has ceased to function. That means your constitution and civil liberties are suspended. The NASS barely functions and the Nigerian government has succumbed to terror in the North”, he tweeted.
