Insecurity: Jonathan expresses worry, identifies major cause

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has lamented the state of insecurity in Nigeria.

Jonathan insisted that most of the crimes carried out were due to drug inducement.

The former president spoke while receiving the management of the Albino Foundation and its partners in Abuja.

He said Nigerians were traumatized by the current state of insecurity in Nigeria.

He said the insecurity in Nigeria has led to issues of mental health which should be addressed.

“Imagine starting your day with the news of killing in the morning, it leaves an impression on your mind.

“We need to also look into issues of mental health as well.

“No sane Nigerian will just go and commit crimes except he is high on something.

“Now we have cults in primary and secondary schools, then it was in tertiary institutions, but you now see children in these schools thinking of how to kill their mates, this is sad,” he lamented.

Boko Haram, kidnapping, banditry among others have been on the rise since the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

While bandits are killing and abducting students in the North, the Southern part of the country is witnessing kidnapping and other vices.
