A fuel tanker exploded on Thursday night in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos state.
NigerianEye learnt that the impact of the explosion was felt inside buildings in the government residential area (GRA) axis of Ikeja, several cars around the area of the incident are reportedly burnt.
As of the time of this report, it wasn’t clear what caused the tanker to explode.
The explosion is said to have occurred around Sheraton Hotel area, located on the Mobolaji Bank Anthony way in Ikeja.
There is a petrol station not too far from that axis.
Officers of the fire service are currently on ground trying to put out the fire.
Also, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and security operatives have been deployed to the area.
The outbreak also resulted in traffic buildup in the area as motorists scampered for safety
The incident comes weeks after fire razed the fabric section of Cairo market in Oshodi, Lagos.
The Oshodi market fire occurred exactly six weeks ago before the latest incident.
While goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in the market fire, no loss of life was recorded.
