James Brown, Nigerian cross-dresser, says his rise to
prominence was no fluke as suggested in some quarters.
In a now-viral video, Brown called out those attempting to
claim credit for his rise to the spotlight, stating that nobody helped him.
The 22-year-old also revealed how he endured many challenges
including spending a month at the Ikoyi correctional facility in Lagos before
he eventually became a sensation.
In 2018, police operatives had arrested Brown and 46 others
during a raid on a hotel in Egbeda axis of Lagos state.
They were thereafter charged with alleged public display of
affection with members of same-sex and kept at the Ikoyi correctional facility.
The court, however, dismissed the case last year, citing
“lack of diligent prosecution.”
Reflecting on the incident, the cross-dresser wondered why
anyone would claim responsibility for his popularity despite what he went
through in prison.
“People don’t know
this about me. They believe that I just woke up one day and went viral. My
dear, do you know I went to Ikoyi prison to become popular?” he queried.
If you didn’t go to Ikoyi prison to become popular don’t say you helped James Brown. 😂 pic.twitter.com/19Y4V1I8Hs

“Do you know I stayed in the prison for one month and
suffered a lot there? So, nobody should tell me that ‘I help you’ Who did you
help?…I want to be classy but you should be smart.”
Brown, whose real name is Obialor James, started pulling the
weight of fame after a video where he made a grammatical blunder “They didn’t
caught me” following his arrest went viral.
The spotlight has continued to beam on the cross-dresser over a lingering feud between him and Bobrisky, self-acclaimed transgender.
