Dapo Abiodun, Ogun state governor, has recognised the
academic success of Oladimeji Shotunde, a graduate of the Lagos State
University (LASU), and Faith Odunsi, Nigerian Mathematics champion.
Shotunde earlier made headlines after he was honoured by
Babatunde Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos state, when he broke a 37-year
record at LASU by graduating with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of
4.86.
On the other hand, Odunsi, who hails from Ijebu in Ogun
state, won the Global Open Mathematics Tournament (GOT) for 2021 after
competing against participants from across the world, taking home the $1,000
prize money.
In a statement on Thursday, Abiodun said an endowment fund
with the monetary content of N5 million has been created for Odunsi by the
state government ahead of subsequent donations to come from the private sector.
He said the state gave a two-bedroom home to Shotude with a
monetary prize of N2 million for his achievement.
“The Ogun state government today launched an endowment fund
for Miss Faith Odunsi who topped the Global Open Mathematics Competition,” the
governor said while presenting award certificates to the honorees.
