Members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) detained for
arresting Iskilu Wakili, a Fulani leader, have been released from custody.
The OPC members had arrested Wakili and some of his fighters
after a gun battle on Sunday at the Ibarapa area of Oyo state.
The state police command had subsequently arrested and detained
some of the OPC members involved in the arrest, accusing them of murder.
The command said a woman was burnt to death while the OPC
members were attempting to arrest Wakili.
Rotimi Olumo, the OPC coordinator in Oyo, said the three
detained individuals were released from the Iyaganku police station on Tuesday
as a result of their health condition.
“The three men were released on bail today from the state
criminal investigation department in Iyaganku, Ibadan,” Olumo said.
“The police released them on health condition. The three men
are seriously ill and need urgent medical attention. The police said the three
of them should report regularly at the state CID for the ongoing
investigation.”
Wakili has been accused of perpetrating criminal activities
alongside his fighters in the Ibarapa area of the state.
