Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, is closing in on the Iranian, Ali Daei’s record of 109 goals- the most ever in men’s international football after scoring in his side’s World Cup qualifier 3-1 win against Luxembourg on Tuesday night.
A goal from Ronaldo and a strike each from Diogo Jota and João Palhinha ensured Portugal defeated Luxembourg at Josy Barthel Stadium.
Ronaldo’s goal against Luxembourg means the Juventus star now has 103rd goal for Portugal.
The former Real Madrid star has now scored for Portugal in every calendar year since his first international goal in 2004 and moved six away from tying the all-time scoring record for a men’s national team.
Reacting after the game, Ronaldo, in a tweet via his Twitter handle, wrote, “Important victory towards our goal. Congratulations Team!
Portugal’s next fixture is against Spain on June 4, before facing Israel on June 9.
