Flutterwave, the $1bn fintech company founded by
Nigerian-born Silicon Valley enthusiast, Olugbenga Agboola, has announced a new
partnership with global payment solutions platform, PayPal.
In a statement on Tuesday, Flutterwave’s Head, Branding and
Storytelling, Yewande Akomolafe-Kalu, said the new partnership allows African
businesses and people living in the continent to receive payments from Paypal
users globally through Flutterwave.
“It is going to change everything, it is going to make
African businesses into global businesses,” she added.
The company explained that Flutterwave’s integration with PayPal is live and operational across 50 African countries and worldwide, adding that Flutterwave’s merchants in Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritius, Malawi, Mozambique and Senegal are also able to easily accept payments from PayPal users worldwide.
Launched in 2016 by Agboola, popularly known as GB, Flutterwave, with its operational head office in Lagos and its corporate headquarters in San Francisco, the company rapidly grew within a short time, leaving many to wonder about the vast opportunities that abound in the fintech ecosystem in Nigeria.
Flutterwave recently clinched a $170m grant, raising the
fortunes of the company to over $1bn within a space of less than five years.
The company helps businesses build customisable payments applications through
its Application Programming Interface.
