Ohanaeze Youth Council, (OYC), an Igbo socio-cultural
organization, has warned Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State not to end up like
ex-Governor, Rochas Okorocha, now the Senator representing Imo West senatorial
district in the National Assembly.
OYC maintained that Okorocha destroyed important facets of
governance in the state, most regrettably, the anti-people policies and
programmes of the past APC government in the State.
The Igbo socio-cultural organization, also appealed to
Governor Uzodinma, to as a matter of necessity, defend the constitution of
Nigeria, especially Section 7, Sub-section 1, which stated that the Local
Governments shall be governed by a democratically elected government.
According to OYC, the case of caretaker committee or interim
is an aberration of the constitution of Nigeria.
The Igbo youth organization, in a statement signed by its
President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka and issued on Tuesday, called
on Governor Uzodinma to quickly conduct a credible local government election
that would be devoid of manipulation, noting that such would pave way for the
youths of the state to participate fully in the leadership formation at the
grassroots.
OYC also implored the Imo State Governor to implement to the
latter the white paper form of the Commission of Enquiry on access recovery,
while recounting that Eze Duruihuoma-led Commission of Enquiry recommended
N92bn, as total treasury allegedly stashed away by Okorocha, who served as Imo
Governor between 2011 and 2019.
The Igbo group extolled Governor Uzodinma for his good
beginning as the executive Governor of Imo State and urged him not to toe the
path of former Governor, Rochas Okorocha.
OYC further advised Senator Uzodinma to redeem the image of
Orlu people, enjoined the Governor not to derail from the track he has set for
himself in order to ensure a positive landing.
Recall that former Governor, Rochas Okorocha had
in recent times been at loggerheads with the Imo State Government over alleged
land acquisition and misappropriation of public funds.
However, OYC, in the statement, further commended Uzodinma
for continuing with the already existing programmes of the immediate past
administration of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, saying, “it is a proof of a
responsible government”.
