Bandits attacks on schools: Despite Minister’s position, Atiku suggests ways out

Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has suggested ways the Federal Government can secure schools across the country.

Atiku said the Federal Government should massively recruit police officers and deploy them to protect schools across the country.

The former Vice President stated this in a post on his Facebook page.

He urged the government to make school children their priority.

According to Atiku: “The Federal Government may think they cannot protect all schools, but in actual fact, they can.

“It is a matter of leadership priority. Children are our greatest asset. If we reassign police officers currently engaged in non-essential guard duties for individuals to schools in the affected states, the object can be achieved.

“Recent figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics reveal that Nigeria now has an all-time high unemployment rate of 33.2%, up from 8.4% in 2015.

“Rather than think we cannot secure all our schools, let us kill two birds with one stone and massively recruit more police officers to provide the needed security.”

Lately, students in the North have been targeted by bandits.

These bandits had abducted students from states like, Zamfara, Niger, Kebbi and the latest being Kaduna.

While students abducted in Kaduna are yet to be released, those affected in the other states have been set free and reunited with their families.
