Mobile telecommunications operator, MTN, gave Super Eagles a
comprehensive life insurance policy during the team’s successful boat trip to
neighbouring Benin Republic on Friday.
There were fears about the safety of the squad travelling by
sea for the 2021 AFCON qualifier against the Squirrels of Benin, which the
Eagles won 1-0 on Saturday.
The Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick
assured the football-loving populace of the safety of the contingent on the
Atlantic Ocean, saying they had made adequate preparations ahead of the trip.
A top official of the NFF, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that MTN played a huge role in the success of the trip by offfering them boats, crew members and insurance for the trip to-and-from Benin.
The contingent also took off and docked at the Falomo jetty
in Ikoyi, Lagos, which was built by the telecommunications service provider for
the Lagos State Waterways Authority.
“MTN supported the Nigerian national team, the ‘Super Eagles, with two boats and seven crew members,” a source disclosed.
“They even gave us a comprehensive life insurance policy to
cover both going and coming.
“They also took off and docked at the modern Falomo jetty,
which MTN built for LASWA.”
