Zamfara: Continued abduction, abuse of our sensibility – Yerima Shettima

The President, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, has observed that the continued abduction of schoolchildren and others going on in the country is an abuse on the sensibility of Nigerians.

He called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to rise up to the task and save the country from the embarrassment that the bandits are causing the country before the international community.

Speaking with newsmen on Friday after the news of the abduction of about 300 schoolgirls from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata -Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, he said something fast has to be done to save the situation.

Recall that the Zamfara Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran comfirmed the abduction in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau on Friday.

He said the abductors in their hundreds invaded the town and took away the students at about 2 a.m.

He, however, could not confirm the number of students abducted.

But Alhaji Yerima Shettima, however, condemned in strong terms the abduction of the schoolgirls, saying that stakeholders including Sheikh Ahmad Gumi have been going round appealing to the bandits to lay down their arms and go into peaceful negotiations that would bring about better understanding and peaceful harmony in the society.

He called on the government at all levels to face the bandits squarely if they are not ready to embrace peace in order to put to an end the ugly situation.

Alhaji Yerima Shettima noted, “We cannot make progress in all spheres of life with this development. The best thing for us is to accept the reality of the present and to embrace each other irrespective of our differences and forge ahead as an entity in order to realise our full potentials as a country.

“Those ready for negotiation and repentance should be attended to and those who are not ready for a way forward in the country should be dealt with by the government so that there would be a way out for Nigerians for peace, unity and development to be the watchword.”

He lamented, “We have heard enough about kidnapping, and it is not doing us any good but rather, it is giving us a bad name, and we are not seen as a serious people. We better think fast and do away with it and move forward.”You
