Kagara abduction: Babangida proffers solution to Nigeria’s insecurity

Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida says the solution to kidnappings and security threats in Nigeria cannot be dealt with in a short-term plan.

Babangida, who said this in an interview on Channels TV, added that Nigeria can overcome its security issues if those in the position of authority plan appropriately.

He explained that solving the threats posed by kidnappers, bandits, and insurgents require a lot of planning.

Speaking on Kagara abduction, Babangida said: “The government has come up with machinery alongside Niger government in efforts to reach bandits.

“What they are doing is right because the safety of the children is a priority. They have to do it in a way that the children will come out unhurt.”

The former President, however, maintained that “In the long term, it requires a lot of planning to solve the insecurity problem in the nation. This problem can be overcome and I believe the security agencies are working together to map out new strategies to deal with the situation.”

He urged Nigerians to join forces with the government to overcome the problem of insecurity.

Recall that about 41 persons including students and staff of Government Science College, GSC, in Kagara were recently kidnapped by bandits.

Governor Bello of Niger State, following their abduction ordered the closure of boarding schools in four council areas until further notice.

Several other innocent Nigerians have been killed and abducted in attacks on villages by the armed bandits.
