The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), Ogun
State chapter, has warned Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho
against setting the South West on fire with his approach in tackling security
issues.
The students urged the activist to review his strategy and
explore dialogue and consultation with relevant stakeholders in Southwest in
order to find lasting solutions to the activities of killer-herdsmen
NANS made the call while addressing newsmen in Abeokuta,
Ogun State on Tuesday, saying that the call became imperative to avoid the
breakdown of law and order in the country.
Kehinde Damilola Simeon, the Chairman of NANS/Ogun Joint
Campus Committee (JCC), also called on the Ogun Government to consider
registration of all herdsmen within the borders of the state.
They said the ban on open grazing should be enforced while
the inauguration of the Amotekun Corps should be fast-tracked to further combat
insecurity around our campuses.
NigerianEye reported yesterday that Igboho stormed troubled
areas in Yewaland, Ogun State, in continuation of his anti – killer herdsmen
battle in Yorubaland.
He had vowed that killer-herdsmen would be evicted from all
parts of Yoruba land starting from Igangan, a town in Ibarapa Local Government
Area of Oyo State.
Kehinde said, “We understand Igboho, but it is our view that
he should meet with Yoruba leaders, Afenifere and other stakeholders. This has
become important so as not to set the entire South-West region on fire and
cause anarchy,” the students said.
“We observe that Igboho’s strategy if not, the review may
lead to ethnic or tribal war. We, therefore, urge him to liaise with the
appropriate authorities to avoid a major disaster,” he said.
“Therefore, the government must come to the rescue of the
schools by releasing more funds for them to enable them to run adequately.
“Furthermore, we expect that the state government will
expedite the process of Bursary payment to indigenous students. Also, as a
matter of urgency review the details collection procedures being implemented,”
he said.
The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun had earlier said it
did not seek the help of Igboho to tackle insecurity caused by the activities
of suspected Fulani herdsmen in the state.
Igboho stormed the state after the residents of Yewa,
Abeokuta North, Odeda and some parts of Ijebu decried what they termed the
inability of the Abiodun-led government to tame the killer herdsmen.

Stockholm syndrome.Where were the afenifere group when some of their members were kidnapped and even had their children killed😏 banning open crazy is a hogwash. How can you say you are banning open grazing while thwy are still in the area with their cows and with no ranch for the cows to graze !!!! When u ban something, there has to be an alternative, and in this case, there is none!! Just verbally saying u are banning open grazing is mere words just to calm the situation and postpone the ineventual clash that's brewing!!!
