Fulani crisis: Commence impeachment process against Buhari – Party Chieftain tells NASS

Olusegun Bamgbose, Esq., a chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, has called on the National Assembly to commence the process of impeaching President Muhammadu Buhari.

The legal practitioner, angered by the President’s failure to address Nigerians on the lingering issues of clashes between Fulani herdsmen and their host communities, called on the National Assembly to summon the President without further delay.

Bamgbose noted that ethnic clashes in the country are taking an ugly dimension following the weekend’s deadly fights which led to the death of many people in Ogun and Oyo States, with houses and shops destroyed.

The clashes also led to the displacement of about 5000 people and Bamgbose noted that this is no doubt unfortunate and unacceptable in a country parading a retired Army general as its President.

“The Fulanis have now become endangered species as a result of President Buhari keeping mum,” Bamgbose said while addressing a crowd of NNPP supporters in Ibadan, Oyo State.

“Recently his(Buhari) Special Adviser informed Nigerians that the President is not supposed to be talkative but he was talkative when he was aspiring to be President, how come now that he has become taciturn.

“Why must Nigerians beg Buhari to address issues that bother on the security of lives and properties of NIGERIANS? This is most unfortunate.

“He was never voted to keep quiet and enjoy the privileges of the office, rather he is expected to speak up on issues affecting the citizens.

“The National Assembly should as a matter of urgency invite the President to address the nation on this ethnic clashes.

“If he will refuse to honour the invitation, impeachment proceedings should be commenced immediately. Nigerians are running out of patience with Buhari’s lackadaisical attitude towards insecurity in Nigeria.

“The Special Aides to Buhari were not elected by Nigerians, we are tired of them responding. Let the President address the nation or get prepared for the mother of all protests.

“Enough is enough. Nigerians can no longer condone this political negligence on the part of the President.”
