New Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has confirmed that his
predecessor Frank Lampard, messaged him after he was appointed.
Tuchel signed an 18-month deal to take charge at Stamford
Bridge on Tuesday.
A little over 24 hours later, his first game ended in a 0-0
draw at home to Wolves.
The 47-year-old has now spoken about his respect for Lampard and the work he did at the club.
“I can assume it is a big, big disappointment for the fan
base to see that Frank was sacked. I have the biggest respect. I was a huge fan
of Frank as a player. It was a pure joy to watch him play and to see how he
played, with the personality he played.
“It just got bigger when I received a personal message today
in the morning to wish me all the best and maybe meet in the future when this
is possible.
“Honestly, nothing has changed there. In the last 72 hours,
Chelsea made clear to me that this is not my fault and I cannot change the
situation for him. The decision was made and I was handed the opportunity, but
I mean what I say,” Tuchel said.
