The Adamawa State Government has directed the closure of all schools with immediate effect.
The order, issued by the state Ministry of Education, came to light Friday when the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Aisha Abubakar said the closure is to take immediate effect.
“The Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development wishes to direct and announce the immediate closure of private and public schools in the state,” she stated.
The ministry gave no reason for the closure of schools, causing many to link it to exigencies of COVID-19 but when contacted, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, attributed it to the Christmas’s and New Year festivities.
“This is to allow school children to go home early for the Yuletide and New Year celebrations.
“The schools are to resume for the second term on Monday 11th January 2021,” Wonosikou said.
