Petitioners at the Lagos judicial panel of inquiry on the
special anti-robbery squad (SARS) are furious as the panel is yet to sit even
two hours after schedule.
The panel sits every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, and
ought to have begun proceedings at 10:00am.
But as of 12pm, the panel is yet to sit.
Omotoso Olukayode, one of the petitioners, said he never
expected such disregard for time by the panel.
“We were all told, five us to come here by 8am and it’s
already 11:10am with none of the members in sight,” he said.
“These are things we should be speaking against. We never
keep to time in Nigeria. They also should be held accountable by the media.”
Also, Chukwu Smart, another complainant said no explanation
was given on why the sitting is yet to begin.
“I’m expectant. I will wait whenever they’re ready. I have
been here since 8am,” he said.
Doris Okuwobi, the chairman of the panel, was seen at the
venue around 9am while some members of the panel were seen arriving a little
after 10am.
One of the registrars at the panel announced that the
lawyers representing the police are the cause of delay.
