Rahama Sadau, a Nigerian actress, has sparked controversy on
social media platforms after she shared pictures of herself wearing a backless
gown.
In the photos, which were posted on her social media pages
on Sunday, the talented Kannywood star poses in a tight-fitted pink gown that
exposed her skin from her neck down to the upper section of her waist.
“May you enjoy outstanding breakthroughs and joy this new
month. Ameen #HappyNewMonth,” the 26-year-old wrote in one of the posts.
Sadau’s fashion choice, however, didn’t go down well with a
number of her conservative Muslim colleagues, some of whom quickly condemned
her as having committed “haram”, an act that is forbidden by Islamic law.
This has since provoked arguments on Twitter as some users
also came to her defense.

“Rahama Sadau is probably the most immoral and indecent
Arewa (Hausa) Twitter lady. That post was totally wrong and she’ll explain that
to her creator,” a Twitter user wrote while reinforcing Islamic virtues.
“This isn’t the first time she did this & we’re sinners
too, but it’s better to cover ur sin private than make it public. Allah ya
shirya.”
A user also wrote: “Nobody at Rahama Sadau’s age can say
he/she doesn’t know that indecent dressing in Islam is haram. So, why worrying
yourself in correcting her? Just drink cold water and mind your business. We
are in free world and death too is inevitable.”
“So many backward-thinking hypocrites in this country. How they carry Rahama Sadau‘s new pictures as the only issue they know and allow it trend, but will never speak up against the injustice up North. Seriously, people need to learn. Everything shouldn’t be about religion,” another user wrote.
Below are the reactions from Nigerians:
For the records, you are no different from those harassing @Rahma_sadau when you also call out those who wear hijab. Many with look of disdain will say "why are you hiding all that with the hijab" some have even insulted.

Even after spending 6years as a medical student in UKRAIN,I didn't let the western world compromise my culture of wearing Hijab.
Hijab is the best thing a woman will ever wear.

Dear Arewa Twitter, Rahama Sadau isn't the reason people were killed in Niger state, Katsina and Zamfara.

Rahama Sadau isn't the reason Kaduna is becoming kidnapper's den.
Rahama Sadau isn't the problem we're facing in Nigeria. Concentrate on the main problems
The fact is what is wrong is wrong no matter how we put it.. Islam has its rules but again following it is by choice. I am a big fan of rahama sadau not because of the way she dresses but because of her acting skills and charisma. Everybody has the right to make their decisions.

Rahama Sadau is an adult, she has people close to her who are religious. Whatever she post on sm is her choice. I fail to understand why some of you are obsessed with someone's lifestyle. Let's do what's needful. Use this energy to tweet about the insecurity in the North

If she had wore the dress to anybody's room or walk around in the gown without posting it online, it would've save the insults and drags. One reason why publicising sin isn't a wise idea. You'll gain nth out of it.

If your threats and bullying are what would inspire Rahama Sadau to be a model Muslim, she would’ve long conformed. No sane person would take advice from indecorous morality police dispensing threats as tools of guidance. She obviously considers you a source of entertainment now.

The day I knew religion is to keep poor people in check is the day Ajimobi's daughter entered the central mosque OjaOba to pray without an ijab and not one cleric, not one voiced disapproval at a lady wearing wig and pressing iPhone in the mosque. Let Rahama Sadau live her life🤭

Those of you defending Rahama Sadau are the biggest hypocrites of them all. Tell me where in any islamic scripture that permits a woman to expose her body. And those of you dragging Arewa Twitter, sune gwamnati? pic.twitter.com/Y4oRWWxQue
