Nigerians raise N3.7m in less than four hours to buy prostethic leg for #EndSARS protester


A fundraising campaign launched to get a prosthetic leg for Jane, a disabled #EndSARS protester, has raked in N3.7 million in less than four hours.

 

Nonso Egemba, a Nigerian medical expert better known as Aproko Doctor, launched the fundraiser in the early hours of Sunday.

 

According to Aproko Doctor, the lady graduated in 2013 but she has been unable to get a job due to her disability.

 

He had earlier enjoined Nigerians to donate N500,000 within a month to help support the cause.

 

“This is Jane. She’s been unemployed since 2013 partly because of her disability, she came out in the #EndSARS protests and we need to help. Please click the link below to donate to this, if you can’t donate, please retweet, someone might see it on your timeline,” he wrote on Twitter.


Thirty minutes after the launch, the N500,000 target was achieved, and Egemba later announcing that the target had been increased.

  


As of the time this report was filed, 619 people have donated ₦ 3,708,500 to support the purchase of  prosthetic leg.

 

Akproko Doctor said the development signals a new dawn in Nigeria.

 

“They’ll make you think this country won’t work because of tribe and religion, gender etc. We’ve shown them that they want it that way because of their selfish interests! A new Nigeria is emerging! We’ll be here for it!”
