The police on Saturday used teargas to disperse a mob
attempting to break into the Arts and Culture Centre in the Garki district of
the federal capital territory (FCT).
The arts centre is located at Area 10, Garki. The area is
home to print businesses, barber shops and restaurants.
It was gathered that the mob assumed that COVID-19 relief
materials were stored at the arts centre.
At the height of the pandemic, the federal capital territory
administration (FCTA) used the arts centre to store COVID-19 relief materials.
The relief materials such as bags of rice, beans and cartons
of noodles were distributed to the various area councils from there.
However, it could not be confirmed if the arts centre still
stores relief materials.
Security personnel on ground reportedly fired gun shots and teargas in a bid to disperse the gathering crowd.
