#EndSARS: SERAP urges Buhari to take action

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has told President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately take action against all security agents who have violently attacked peaceful protesters demanding an end to police repression and brutality on Friday.

It was reported that Teams of policemen were raiding some parts of Delta State to arrest youths, which may be unconnected with the End SARS protests.

Also, reports making the rounds on the internet said some protesters who hit the streets in Abuja were attacked with tear gas by some police officers trying to disperse them.

Reacting, SERAP in a tweet via its official Twitter account said: “Nigerian authorities should publicly commit to standing by the victims of police brutality, and ensure that justice is no longer denied or delayed.”

“We call on the government of President Buhari to immediately take action against all security agents who have today reportedly violently attacked peaceful protesters across the country who are demanding an end to police repression and brutality.

“Nigerian authorities should publicly commit to standing by the victims of police brutality, and ensure that justice is no longer denied or delayed.

“President Buhari’s government should promptly investigate all reports of attacks on protesters and ensure that those suspected to be responsible for crimes against protesters are brought to justice without delay.

“Victims must receive effective remedies, including compensation, satisfaction and guarantee of non-repetition,” the tweet read.
