#EndSARS: Buhari Minister, Sunday Dare condemns killing of protester in hometown


The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, has condemned the killing of one of the youths agitating for the ban of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in his hometown, Ogbomoso in Oyo State.

It was reported how one of the youths clamoring for the ban of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) an arm of the Nigeria Police Force was shot in Ogbomoso town in Oyo State.

It was gathered that the youths on Saturday stormed major streets in the town to demand the ban of SARS.

Our correspondent learnt that the victim was shot in the leg when the protesters reached Owode Police station in Ogbomoso, though the state Police Command had denial the allegation that the victim was shot by the Police.

It was gathered that the man was shot when the policemen at the station were trying to ensure that the station was not attacked by the angry protesters.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joe Enwonwu, while reacting insisted that the police only used tear gas canister to disperse the protesting youths.

But, Dare while reacting described as regrettable, the death of Isiaka.

Dare in a statement made available to newsmen added that the deceased was a native of Ogiri Compound, Alasa, Ogbomoso.

He added that apart from Isiaka who lost his life, some other protesters were injured during the #ENDSARS protest in Ogbomoso on Saturday.

Dare while speaking, further demanded a full investigation into the incident in order to bring to justice, all those responsible for Isiaka’s death.

“The past few days have been troubling. The demand of the youth for an End to SARS and End to Police Brutality must be taken seriously. Protests are not in themselves unlawful.

“But, must be done in a peaceful manner and not hijacked by hoodlums. The Government is committed to a revamp of the system and must be given a chance to do this,” the Minister opined.

“There is a renewed commitment at the highest levels of Government to institute far-reaching reforms that will see a better era of policing. Our youths are a great resource, and we must protect them, not waste them”.
