Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has said the team needs up to five matches to get up to speed.
Solskjaer watched on, as the Red Devils began their Premier League campaign, with a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
United travel to play Luton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
In what has been a short preseason for the Red Devils, they only played against Aston Villa, in preparation for the new season.
Solskjaer admits it could take weeks for his players to reach match fitness.
“We need four or five games to get up to the standard we know we’re capable of.
“We haven’t had an opportunity to get those games in and we have to make sure, in these games, we get the minutes and make the players ready to start competing in the league again,” he told a press conference on Monday.
After travelling to Luton, they face a tricky run of fixtures featuring games against Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton before the middle of November.
