Mamman Daura, nephew to President
Muhammadu Buhari, says he is currently in quarantine in the United Kingdom
where he travelled to recently.
UK mandates new arrivals from
certain countries, including Nigeria, to self-quarantine for 14 days.
In a video in which he was
speaking in Hausa over the phone with Buhari in what appeared to be a private
residence, Daura said he arrived safely in the UK.
The former journalist had left
the country on Wednesday, leading to rumours that he had been infected with
COVID-19 and was flown out on medical emergency.
But his family sources had told
TheCable that he is “in good health” and only travelled for his regular medical
check-up.
“Mallam (Daura) did not travel to
the UK to treat COVID-19 or because of any medical emergency. He is in good
health. He went for his regular check-up and there is nothing strange about
that,” one of his relatives had disclosed.
In the video which was from his
call to Buhari, Daura also expressed condolences on Wada Maida, another
associate of the president who died on Monday.
“We arrived safely, so we are in
quarantine for now. Yes, unfortunately… that is it,” he told the president.
“We have not spoken since Mallam
Mada Waida (died). May Allah forgive him.”
He also said that a governor came
to console him on the death of Isa Funtua, another confidant of the president
who passed on a month ago.
No iota of truth in the earlier story that Mallam Mamman Daura was flown to London for an emergency medical attention, he is hale and hearty, Nigerians should disregard that story. pic.twitter.com/6CJMwnDDlD

The references to recent events are apparently meant to
dispel possible rumours that it is an old video.
