Nigeria’s daily case count dropped to its lowest in close to
four months with 160 new coronavirus infections confirmed in 14 states and the
federal capital territory (FCT) on Friday.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the
new figure in its update for August 28, 2020.
The last time the country’s daily infection count dropped
below 160 was on May 12, when 146 new COVID-19 cases were recorded.
However, over the past 15 weeks, the number of cases has
increased significantly to more than five times the figure as of May 31, 2020.
As of the end of May, the total number of confirmed cases
stood at 10,162 with a little over 3,000 recoveries; two months later, NCDC had
recorded 43,151 positive samples but the figure of discharged patients had also
risen to 19,565.
While no death was recorded on Friday, leaving the fatality
toll at 1,011, the number of discharged patients has now increased from 40,726
to 41,017.
