President Muhammadu Buhari has directed heads of security
and defence services to implement comprehensive security philosophies.
He said this would address Nigeria’s security challenge.
The nation’s leader spoke at the graduation of the National
Defence College Course 28 on Thursday in Abuja.
Buhari was represented by the Minister of Defence, Maj.-Gen
Bashir Magashi (rtd.).
The president said that in spite of challenges including
insecurity, unemployment, COVID-19 pandemic, the nation remained strong and
vibrant in all forms.
Buhari said his administration’s resolve to take the nation
to greater heights was still the same.
“We must continuously harness the strengths of our national
diversities; we must promote “Nigeria first” in all our doings; we must bridge
political divides and engage in political re-engineering based on equity and
mutual trust.”
This, he stressed, was the path for armed forces, the
Nigeria police, intelligence and security agencies and other significant state
and non-state actors engaged in the provision of security.
Buhari warned that moving forward, all security organs must
work in unison.
He said this should be through interagency cooperation,
transformation, expansion, modernisation and high morale of all security men
and women.
Buhari told the heads of security and defence services to
make these aspirations “fully come to fruitions quickly.”
