Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, on Monday urged
the Arewa Consultative Forum to challenge those in power like the Northern
Elders Forum, NEF, following issues of insecurity in the North.
Sani said Arewa Forum should do away with cowardice and
emulate NEF by telling those in power the truth.
Following attacks by bandits and insurgents in the North,
NEF’s convener, Prof. Ango Abdullahi had accused the President Muhammadu
Buhari-led government of failing to secure people of the region.
Abdullahi had lamented that North was at the mercy of criminals
who are constantly terrorizing them.
However, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,
Femi Adesina had lambasted Abdullahi for taking such a position.
Adesina described NEF as a troop without a leader, stressing
that the group lacked true leaders.
Reacting, Sani urged Arewa Forum to speak against the
killings in the North so that history will be kind to them.
In a post on his Facebook, Sani wrote: “Arewa Forum should
emulate Northern Elders forum, by telling truth to power so that history will
be kind to them for speaking out and standing up for the people of the region
when they were being slaughtered and buried in mass. This is not the time for
silence, cowardice and obsequiousness.”
