The Senate’s closed-session,
Tuesday with the acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu has
culminated into far-reaching decisions to curb the high rate of insecurity
across the country.
The discussion which commenced at
about 11:20 am ended at 1:47 pm.
But rising from the session,
Senate President, Bukola Saraki reeled out on the floor of the hallowed chamber
the issues which the discussion was prioritized and the common grounds of
agreement.
He said, “We deliberated on areas
of banditry, robbery, terrorism activities and other security challenges in the
country.
“The Nigeria Police promised to
put more efforts to ameliorate the situation and hoped to address the menace
squarely.
“IGP also promised to address
areas that have to do with indiscipline of officers that have been found
wanting, particularly the alleged abuse of some ladies by some policemen who
were at a night club in Abuja.
“Adamu has assured that efforts
would be made on the situation of insecurity along Abuja-Kaduna highway and
also on the area of intelligence gathering.
”The Senate also promised to
appropriate adequate funding to enable the police combat the necessary stress
to our security”.
