Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel believes forward Neymar
“does not have the profile” to become a future captain at Le Parc des Princes.
The Brazilian starred as PSG beat Angers 2-1 on Saturday,
opening the scoring and assisting Angel Di Maria for the second before Flavien
Tait pulled one back for the hosts.
And with captain Marquinhos dismissed for grasping forward
Wilfried Kanga late on, Tuchel was faced with calls to install Neymar as
captain moving forward – despite Marquinhos currently sharing the role with
Thiago Silva.
But despite Neymar appointed captain of Brazil last
September, Tuchel remained undeterred on the issue of PSG’s captaincy after the
Angers win.
“For me, [Neymar] does not have the profile to be the
captain with the armband,” Tuchel said.
“He is a technical leader and attacker. I do not understand
why everyone is talking about this thing. We have Thiago Silva and Marquinhos,
they are fantastic and we are not going to change.”
Neymar was also likely to be playing his final league match
of the season, having been given a three-match ban for lashing out at a fan
following a loss to Rennes on penalties in the French Cup final last month.
