The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar
Adamu, has reassured that the Force would stop extra judicial killings.
He said this in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday at the
inauguration of the Zonal Security Stakeholders Forum for Zone XI Command
Headquarters covering Osun, Oyo and Ondo States.
Represented by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mr Taiwo
Lakanu, the IGP said the Force was developing a strategic approach to
reducing fatalities associated with
misuse of firearms.
He identified the misuse of firearms as a major factor
engendering conflict and distrust between the citizens and the police.
He said the Force was considering using less lethal weaponry
such as taste or stun guns during routine patrols, arrest duties and civil
disorder management.
