Reno Omokri, former aide to
ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has taken the campaign to secure the freedom of
Leah Sharibu to earth’s highest mountain, Everest.
Sharibu was among the over 100
students abducted from Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School,
Dapchi, Yobe state, on February 19, 2018.
While the other girls were
released a month later, the insurgents kept Sharibu back for refusing to
denounce her Christian faith. She has since then remained in captivity.
All efforts so far by the federal
government to secure her release have proved abortive, with the insurgents
threatening to keep her prisoner for life.
Omokri has remained persistent in
the call for Sharibu’s release, including writing a book titled ‘Leah Sharibu:
The Girl Boko Haram Left Behind’.
In what could be seen as his
latest move to secure Sharibu’s release, Omokri spotted a tracksuit with the
inscription, #FreeLeahSharibu, on Mount Everest.
He also displayed the pictures of
his visit to Everest inside an aircraft.
