The leadership crisis rocking the Lagos State chapter of the
Peoples Democratic Party has taken a new twist as Mr Segun Adewale, who is
laying claim to the chairmanship of the party, was accused of breaking into the
secretariat on Friday to hold a meeting.
The party chairman in the state, Dr Adegbola Dominic, in a
petition to the Commissioner of Police, Mu’azu Zubairu, stated that Adewale,
popular known as Aeroland, burgled the secretariat on the pretext that he was
holding a party meeting.
But in a reaction, Adewale said he did not break into the
office but simply went to take possession of the office.
He said he was issued with a letter of appointment in 2016
by the Ali Modu-Sheriff-led administration, adding that the appointment would
terminate in 2021.
Adewale, in a letter written to the police, also asked Dominic to stop parading himself
as the chairman of the PDP.
However, Dominic in the petition titled, ‘Unnecessary and
preventable break-in and entry at PDP Secretariat, Ikeja,’ said it was not the
first time Adewale was breaking into the secretariat.
Dominic also alleged that Adewale was not a member of the
party and could not lay claim to being appointed as chairman of the party
during the defunct administration of the Ali Modu-Sheriff-led national
executive.
Dominic stated, “I wish to bring to your notice that Mr
Segun Adewale, also known as Aeroland, and his thugs have broken into our party
secretariat again.
“This happened in the morning of Friday, April 26, 2019, on
the pretext that they were holding a party meeting, despite (the fact) that he
is not a member of our party and the police have been duly informed about that
fact.
“Please be reminded that this occasion is not the first that
Segun Adewale is breaking into our party secretariat in this manner, which
prompted our party’s national leadership, in a petition to the Lagos State
Commissioner of Police dated, April 16, 2019, to request that Adewale, not
being a member of our party, should be apprehended for breaking into our party
secretariat.
“Our party leaders have been hard pressed restraining our
party’s youths from rising to defend our secretariat and staff in which case
there would otherwise have been a breakdown of law and order, and possibly
bloodshed.
“This, as responsible party leaders, we want to avoid at all
cost; and therefore we are imploring the police to apprehend Adewale in order
to maintain the peace, and protect our properties and our law-abiding members.”
When contacted for his comment, the National Publicity Secretary
of the PDP, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, declined comment on the matter.
A top PDP source, however, said Dominic was the known
chairman of the party, adding that Adewale contested the governorship election
in Ekiti on the platform of the Action Democratic Party in 2018 and had not
returned to the party since then.
